April 2nd update

Hello, Coaches, mentors, volunteers:

Thanks to all your hard work and effort, we are wrapping up a successful Science Olympiad season, with the final state competition in two weeks at Central Washington University.

I want to thank over 100 volunteers who are working in the background to get us ready. I also want to thank the donors and especially HP Inc for supporting WA State Science Olympiad tournament. Without their support and our host CWU, we won’t be able to welcome the 49 teams who represent the 33 schools across Washington state to Ellensburg. I am really excited and looking forward to April 12th.

Another final piece of business for me as the interim state director is to recruit and help select the next board members and student representatives. The board member plays a central role and we are recognized by national office for having a strong presence by the board in organizing state activity. Speaking from personal experience, I was honored to have served for two years before taking up the SD job and there is no better way to serve the entire WA state than to come serve on the board. We also have strong student leadership – this year the student representatives helped organized many of the test writing and invitational participations. We would love to have more people volunteering and be part of the board. Please consider this opportunity. You can nominate qualified candidates or yourself for the BOD using the form posted on state website. The deadline is April 30th.
