Rules Manuals
The Rules Manuals published by Science Olympiad, Inc. are an important resource for knowing what to study and how to build your devices. These manuals are typically released the Tuesday after Labor Day each year and provide essential guidelines and information to help you prepare effectively for your events.
Rules Clarifications & FAQs
Two important sections of the National Science Olympiad website that students and coaches should be familiar with are the Rules Changes/Corrections and Rules Clarifications/Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) pages. The Rules Clarifications/FAQ pages provide general answers reviewed by Science Olympiad’s national team of experts. If a question requires an answer, it indicates that something in the rules needs further explanation and should be noted by all students and Event Supervisors.
When a submitted question highlights a rule that needs a change or correction—such as a misspelling, an omission or to explain measurement terminology—Science Olympiad will issue a Rules Change/Correction to correct the rules in the Science Olympiad Rules Manual.
Science Olympiad TV
The national Science Olympiad organization regularly posts event videos to their YouTube channel, Science Olympiad TV. These are a convenient, reliable way to learn about your events from an official source!
Scioly.org (Science Olympiad Student Center)
Scioly.org is a vibrant online community and an essential resource for Science Olympiad enthusiasts. It features Forums where students, coaches, and alumni discuss strategies, share experiences, and seek advice. The comprehensive Wiki offers detailed information on events, rules, and best practices. The Test Exchange provides a wealth of practice materials, including past tests and answer keys for various events. The Gallery showcases photos and videos from competitions and team activities, providing a platform for idea sharing to inspire the next generation of Science Olympiad builders. Finally, the Chat feature, operating through Discord, allows for real-time discussions, advice, and camaraderie among members. Scioly.org is your go-to resource for everything Science Olympiad as a student!
2026-27 Washington Unique Events
Quantum Supremacy (Division C):
This popular event is updated to reflect the latest technology advancement and applications related to Quantum Computing. Compared to 2026 season, the scope is reduced to focus more on quantum computing. Some of the state tests from prior seasons are shared below.

Students participating in regular physics and chemistry events this year may find overlap in topics with Thermodynamics, Chem Lab, Protein modeling, and Circuit Lab. Although we forgot to include in the reference, Introduction to Classical and Quantum Computing by Thomas Wong is a good starter-level text book for the new topics – Thanks to Tesla STEM team for the suggestion!
Game Agent (Division B)
This is a truly unique event being piloted at the WA Invitational, Regional and State levels, with the goal to promote artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). Teams develop a Gotdot-based Game, train/code an AI agent, and document Game design. At competitions, selected games will be demonstrated with interactive play options for the audient. Resource Hub is a resource sharing website to help new teams requesting or sharing equipment and other resources among teams. Team can sign up using the NCES school database, adding resource request, search and filter for resources/events.
