All participants and coaches are encouraged to familiarize themselves with our Policies page which includes Washington Science Olympiad-specific policies as well as Science Olympiad general policies.
Events List & Schedule
The Washington-specific events list and schedule is on our Tournaments page and is updated each season around October/November.
Rules Manuals
The Rules Manuals published by Science Olympiad, Inc. are an important resource for knowing what to study and how to build your devices. These manuals are typically released the Tuesday after Labor Day each year and provide essential guidelines and information to help you prepare effectively for your events.
Rules Clarifications & FAQs
Two important sections of the National Science Olympiad website that students and coaches should be familiar with are the Rules Changes/Corrections and Rules Clarifications/Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) pages. The Rules Clarifications/FAQ pages provide general answers reviewed by Science Olympiad’s national team of experts. If a question requires an answer, it indicates that something in the rules needs further explanation and should be noted by all students and Event Supervisors.
When a submitted question highlights a rule that needs a change or correction—such as a misspelling, an omission or to explain measurement terminology—Science Olympiad will issue a Rules Change/Correction to correct the rules in the Science Olympiad Rules Manual.

Washington Unique Events
Sustainable Energy
Finding alternatives to fossil fuels is one important response to addressing climate change as is finding energy storage solutions from intermittent renewable sources like solar and wind. In this year’s Sustainable Energy event, teams will design, build, and test a chemical energy storage solution (battery) and demonstrate their knowledge of the chemistry, history, and advances in battery technology. The 2025-2026 event rules cover the same content as previous season, with revised build parameters.

Game Agent
This is a truly unique event designed being piloted at the WA Regional and State levels, with the goal to promote artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) at both middle and high school levels.
The Division B competition is similar to the previous year’s in scope: Develop a Gotdot-based Game and train/code an AI agent for the gap. The format is revised: Only two student per team, and there is a science theme for the game. The Division C competition is new but similar to Division B in format. The main difference is the RML type and more advanced coding emphasis on the Division C side. More information can be found at this website dedicated to the event.
